Pasta Threading – Fine Motor Activity for Toddlers

Pasta Threading is a simple activity for toddlers which benefits by building fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, creativity, concentration and sense of achievement.

What you need

How to

  • Let your kids poke the straws into the playdough and thread the pasta into it.

Yes its that simple. Miss D (21 months) did good at this activity. I loved the way she was engrossed in it. She did show us some puppet play too – inserted pasta in her fingers – really got her excited. 😀 Even though Miss A(almost 3yrs) is too old for this activity, she did join us for few mins. Later took off with some pasta and playdough to cook in her play kitchen. She also enjoyed making pasta prints on the playdough.

We used Rigatoni pasta because its big and there’s less room for error. You could use any kind of tubular pasta for this activity. The main aim of this activity is for kids to feel a sense of achievement. You could also use colored pasta & matching straws – let your LOs thread the matching pastas to the straws – they learn color recognition and sorting. 👍
